GMX Email!
I know there are tons of free email services out there, and all provide a HUGE amount of space now thanks to GMail, but most are the same, dull, boring, and lack features.
Also with many of them its almost impossible to get a decent email address (you have to get your name along with numbers, or whatever else isn’t taken already). Due to GMX being fairy new, its super easy to get a short attractive email address! For example for BigFreeSite i was able to grab
Even many of the "free email providers" out there limit what you can do, and put all the needed features in some premium subscription that you must pay yearly for (Yahoo! for one). GMX is not like that, as far as I can see its completely free!
Some of the main features of the service are:
- 5 GB e-mail storage and attachments up to 50 MB
- POP3 and IMAP access
- 2 GB Extra For File Storage
And more!
GMX has the most attractive Web Interface that I have ever seen on any web based email provider. It’s simply stunning, and the extra themes you can choose from are even better!

Once you sign up and login, you will be amazed by how beautiful the web UI is. They sort all the windows, emails, everything by tabs. So when you log in you will see two tabs: GMX Home, and Inbox.
The home tab basically is like a wall, which you can put widgets on, that can basically get you up-to-date with news, facebook wall posts, game scores, anything really! They also have some fun games that you can put on your wall.
Right now I only have the facebook widget enabled.
So basically you can have a dashboard of little widgets that help you get started and perform all of your daily tasks. Which is pretty neat. I haven’t messed with it all too much though.
The email views are pretty much standard. Nothing special here. Same as you’ll get on hotmail, yahoo!, etc.
You can have the email previews show up on the bottom, or to the right in its own panel column.
Also soon after you login, a feature they offer called “Mail Collector” will pop up. Basically this feature allows you to sign into all your other email accounts (has a huge list of service providers that you can choose from), and basically it’ll check all those accounts for you, and import them into your GMX folder. Many other email providers have a similar feature, and I’ve personally have never wanted or needed to use, so i haven’t tested it. I’m sure it works great, and will benefit many users.

One of the features that I’ve been playing around with, and really liking is their Organizer. It’s basically a Calendar, and i know many services especially Gmail and Windows Live Hotmail provide this, but to be honest, GMX has the most beautiful UI that I have ever seen like i said, and their Organizer is no exception.
Some of the basic features of the Organizer are:
- Create events with a single mouse-click
- Move events via Drag & Drop
- Invite guests to events via email
(Outlook compatibility) - Centrally maintain task lists
- Set up automatic reminder function
for important tasks and events
They have an awesome feature called “File Storage”. Basically you get an EXTRA 2GB! Just for this, which you can use as a free online file backup. You can pretty much upload whatever you want or need to backup and retrieve whenever. Also you can set up guest access where you can upload files, and share them with whomever you allow access.
The service also provides free POP3 Access and IMAP.
I have been using their IMAP service with Windows Live Mail (free email desktop client from Microsoft) for the past months, without a single hiccup. I sometimes wish that i didn’t enjoy the convenience of using a desktop email client, because as i said, their Web UI is so beautiful.
There are many more features that you simply just have to check out for yourself.
I don’t think you’ll be dissatisfied with the service at all, especially since you can finally get a decent short email address. I actually got two accounts, one for this site, which is , and one for my personal site which is , both super short, and easy to remember.
Head on over the GMX.com, and check out the service! You’ll be happy!
